Veneers are thin sheets of porcelain that fits over the front surface of your teeth. Veneers correct irregularities in your smile, including:
If you’re self-conscious about your smile, veneers may just be the perfect solution for your needs. They’re often a good alternative to uncomfortable braces and the intrusiveness of crowns.
Dr. Spillman or his colleague Dr. Thomas Ryan will first sit down with you for a consultation about your cosmetic dental goals and the changes you’d like to see. You can decide together if veneers are the right choice for you.
You’ll undergo a comprehensive exam, during which a dental assistant takes photos and impressions of your mouth. The impressions are sent to a lab that creates the veneers. Dr. Spillman or Dr. Ryan first check the fit of the veneers with a wax model and then apply temporary veneers. The doctor shaves off a super-thin layer of your enamel to make room for the veneers, and applies the temporary ones. The fit can still be adjusted at this point, and once you’re happy with them, the final veneers are ordered from the lab.
When they come in, the veneers are bonded into place for a permanent change to your smile. Veneers transform your smile for years.
Care for veneers just as you do your natural teeth. Brush at least twice per day, and floss regularly. Visit the office of Spillman Family Dental for regular checkups and professional cleanings. Avoid behaviors that may cause them to crack or chip, such as chewing on ice or biting down on hard foods. Repeated exposure to staining foods, such as coffee, tea, or red wine, can discolor veneers. When you have good oral hygiene, veneers can last for up to 10 years.
If you have issues with your smile that include misshapen teeth, gaps, or chips, call Spillman Family Dental to learn how porcelain veneers can reform your smile.
